Cocktail parties have been a popular social gathering for decades. They were very popular  during the first few decades of the 1900’s  but  died off a bit during the last part of the century, but they are now back. Melbourne Function Venue: Throwing a Cocktail Party Part A

Cocktail parties are great for entertaining personal friends or business associates, or a combination of the two. They are good for open houses or receptions, both business and personal as well.

The average cocktail party takes 2-3 hours during which guests have a simple spread of food and drink great cocktails while chatting with other guests at the same time. It is in fact quite an easy event to plan and there are so many choices available.

Party Decisions:

A cocktail party could be as simple or complicated as you wish to plan it.

There are a couple of questions you should ask yourself to start to plan a cocktail party.

  1. What is the number of guests will be at the event?
  2. Is this a casual event for friends gathering or a formal business networking event?
  3. How much time and effort would I like to contribute into it?
  4. Is there going to a full bar or a limited cocktail menu?
  5. Is the party an indoor or outdoor event? If it is outdoor, do I have a plan for in climate weather?
  6. What kind of food will be served at the party?
  7. Is there a certain theme for the party?
  8. Should attendees be asked to bring anything?
  9. How much do I feel like to spend?

The Food:

A full course meal is not compulsory or necessary for a cocktail party. Simple foods, for example,  hors d’oeuvres and other finger foods, so that guests can graze throughout the event whenever they feel the need.

Donna Pilato, former About.com Entertaining Expert, offers some suggestions on some of her favorite cocktail party foods like Salmon Tarts and Mocha Shortbread which are great for almost  any taste. Even some food as simple as a cheese, crackers and cut fruit suits perfect for the casual party.

To be a good host you need to have some kind of food available and if you do not feel like to deal with food at all, Hire a caterer.
